“The sign is in fucking km! This is America mother fucker, tighten up!!”
This weekend was the Monterey, CA stop over for The Gentlemen of the Road tour…Mumford and Sons’ fantastic idea to celebrate local community on a global scale. Traveled up to Monterey by way of hwy 5, which took forever. No camping available upon arrival so we settled on two nights at the Magic Carpet Lodge, a very classy establishment. Headed to Cvs on a solo mission for liquor and while standing in front of their limited selection I overheard one gentleman say to another “Well, it all just comes down to what path we want to go down today”. Obviously, made friends with them and, as it turns out, we would be drinking with them outside the liquor store down the street 10 hours later. Mumford put on the best show I’ve ever seen. The rest of the weekend was a lot of visual stimulation, provided by Hwy 1 along the coastline. We lucked out on a campsite in Big Sur, met MORE awesome people whose compassion and generosity kept us from freezing over night. Our camp neighbor to the to the other side fed us a dinner of local mussels (harvested 500 ft from our tent) he had gathered himself. Saying it was a wonderful weekend is a gross understatement.
